How to Make Space was co-curated by Jennifer Davis & Su-Ying Lee, known as Rear View (Projects).

This exhibition is an apexart Franchise Program 2015-2016 winning proposal and was presented in Hong Kong from June 25 to July 23, 2016 at The Central Oasis Gallery. This exhibition has also received funding from the Graham Foundation.

How to Make Space highlights the powerful way in which female migrant workers in Hong Kong, China, use temporary structures to create community.  Original proposal, exhibition essays and programming can be found on apexart’s website: apexart.org/exhibitions/davis-lee.php

The three participating artists’ practices relate self-organization, space and place through feminist methods:

Stephanie Comilang, a Canadian artist and filmmaker who has embarked on a research project in Hong Kong about Filipina migrant domestic workers.

Devora Neumark, an interdisciplinary artist, researcher, community development specialist and educator from Canada.  www.devoraneumark.com

Tings Chak is a Hong Kong born and Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist. She is a migrant justice activist who organizes alongside migrant workers, undocumented people, and immigrant detainees. She received her Master of Architecture from the University of Toronto and her thesis work was published as a graphic novel, Undocumented: The Architecture of Migrant Detention www.undocumented.ca
